November 17- 27 our team of 12 went to Haiti for our mini outreach. We stayed at the YWAM base in St. Marc, that is run by Terry Snow. (i would encourage you all to read his story in the book called "Taking the High Places"!)
During our time in Haiti we worked in an area called the 5th section. Our job was to go to every house, in the certain village we went that day, and write down the caregivers name, the condition of their house, and if their family had any other needs (that all was the inspectors job). Then the inspectors would give the information they had written down, to the person and they were sent over to the tent. Under the tent we had 5 people at the computer entering all the data into the computer system and taking a picture of the caregiver. The picture was then printed out made into an ID card for each of the families. After each family got an ID then were given a Blue Food Card, which later in the week they would turn in for a box of food supplies.
I worked under the tent on the computers along with Alyssa, Kathy, Lori and Luke. Hannah By. and Hannha W. were our ID card makers.
Day 1 we headed to a village called La Grange. We were in for a fun surprise with the traveling conditions! We all pilled the truck (picture below) along with all our equipment and set off. It began to rain but we keep moving, stopping a few time to decided it we should even go. We were informed that the road to La Grange would be extremely muddy and rough to get through. But we decided to go for it! WOW what a trip, mud flying everywhere, tires spinning, people banging into each other and trying to hang on to anything we could find in order to stay on the truck. Once we even had to get out and push-start the truck! After arriving it took us a while to get started but we soon got the hang of things. I had a fun time trying to get people to smile for their picture. I usually got a smile when i said "su wee" which is the word for smile, now that i think about it, they usually laughed after i tried saying smile!
--God did some awesome protecting during our trip there and back through all the mud and pot holes. Over all we took about 400 pictures, which= 400 families that are now in the computer system!
Day 2 we headed out to another village called Desfounaue, Terry and the base had never worked with them before. Things went smoothly and we got down around lunch time. Kathy and I made hopscotch but all the kids were to shy to play. So we ended up entertaining a large group and kids (and adults!) with a small game of hopscotch. We headed to another village where were unable to drive into because of the floods. We ended up teaming up and all being inspectors for the day.
--My eyes were open to the poverty of Haiti, houses were extremely tiny and made of mud, sticks and whatever else they could find. But yet i saw smiles of JOY and happiness in many of their eyes.
Day 3 we headed back to La Grange to hand out food boxes, it took 4 truck trips to get all the boxes there! It was a great adventure traveling with 100 some boxes and 5-8 people on the back of the truck. While waiting in La grange between trips we played with the kids! The kids were a great joy! They loved having their pictures taken and also loved repeating everything we said!
Day 4 started off amazing because Lindsay and Laura (two girls on staff at YWAM, Haiti from PA!) made pancakes for us, what a blessing! Then they took us the market--> not what i expected at all. The streets were used for walking, selling and driving on, kind of crazy. The market didn't have any fun little souvenirs that i was looking for. Then we went out for lunch, and got some very interesting spaghetti a little to spicy for my likings. Finished off our Saturday night playings games! (Four on a couch!)
Day 5 was sleep in Sunday! Our team had a very powerful time of worship and intercession, a time of mending relationships --> a very freeing time. We spent the rest of the afternoon getting things ready and organized to run the church service later that night. The first part of the night we had around 50 kids from the street, come to the base. Our team acted out the story of Daniel and The Lions Den and did a craft --> Lions Masks! I loved every minuet of it! The kids were a real joy to work with and seemed to love the lions masks. The service started off with worship some songs in creole and some in English. I could defiantly feel the Holy Spirit moving during the service, people were singing, dancing and worshiping the Lord with everything in them! (i know i was!) Our team did two drama's, two testimonies and then Veronica (one of my staff leaders) preached.
--God really encouraged me to worship Him whole-heartedly in all i do, not just when it comes to singing.
Day 6 we headed back to the 5th section where things didn't seem to be going well. We were informed before we left that there were only 200 people in the village we were working at, but by lunch time we were still taking people's pictures. Things weren't adding up and Terry decided to head home early because the people were lying and tricking us into making more then one ID card for their families.
--This was the first time i felt so much Spiritual warfare. I was very frustrated and didn't have a very good attitude towards the people of the village. It was sad to see the greed and selfishness of the people. But God reminded me in Romans 8:38 that "nothing can ever separate us from God's love... not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's Love." So i have no excuse to withhold God's love from others.
Day 7 started out in prayer, out team felt like big things were going to happen! We went to three different villages. The first we preformed two drama's and i gave my testimony! God gave me the words to say in a simple way to be translated and i wasn't even nervous. They were very hospitable to us-->brought out chairs for us, listened and were very respectful when one of us was talking. They received their food boxes with gratitude and some even stopped for us to pray for them! Terry (YWAM Learder) decided hang out and eat lunch at one of his favorite villages. I had a good time preforming drama's, praying for the people of the village and holding the cutest baby for a good 30 mins! The next village we all became inspectors, handing out blue cards to those who had ID cards. Things went to smoothly and the people were friendly.
--What an awesome day, i saw many people accept Jesus into their hearts and genuinely what a change for their life. God really used our team to reach the people of these villages and aloud big things to happen!
I played soccer with some of the guys on staff from Haiti, they were awesome! I could have played all night long! It was good to play soccer again. :)
Day 7 half the team stayed at the base to help with the school they run and the others went to one more village to hand out food boxes. I stayed and went with Lindsay Horning (YWAM Staff from PA!) to her class. Because it was the day before thanksgiving the kids had a half day. So we celebrated thanksgiving with the kids --> meal, stories, thanksgiving bingo, dress up and coloring. These kids are so special and i could see God shinning in each one of them, especially when we went around and said what we were thankful for. They really have a heart for God. That afternoon Terry spoke to us on long term missions and how to overcome spiritual warfare.
--God really encouraged me to remain trusting in him because He wants to use me!
Later that night was the November birthday celebration and tradition on base is: b-day people get thrown into the pool! Fun times hanging out with the Haiti staff.
Day 8 we took picture and said our good-byes to the staff of YWAM Haiti. The ride to the airport was 2 1/2 hrs... a lot of time to thing about how I'm going to miss Haiti.
Hope this wasn't to long for you guys to read, i just couldn't leave some of what happen out! Thanks for all your prayers and support during my time in Haiti, it was a trip i will never forget!

Week 4
Eileen Hartzler was our speaker this week and she talked about Grace and Holiness aka Forgiveness and the Cross. I got a deeper understanding of "the fall" and how because of Adam and Eve sinning we have separation of man, from God, from himself, from other men and from creation. I haven't really grasped the separation from creation before. I used to question why God would allow natural disasters to happen, because we all know that He is capable of stopping them. But the thing is, those disasters are not what God had planed! It all goes back to the fall, where "man" chose to disobey God and as a result of that, separation from creation, and as a result of that we have floods, hurricanes, disease, and other natural disasters.
God see's that we are sinners and need a way back to having a relationship with Him. I really liked how Eileen said this: God came to this earth to live the life we couldn't live and die the death we should have died. God took his wrath and anger our on HIS SON! because of the cross we are now legally declared righteous! Think about that... we are and will always be declared righteous, even when we really aren't worthy and living our a righteous life. We don't even how to earn righteousness, actually we don't have to earn anything at all. I so desperately want to show God all the good things I am doing, trying to earn His love and acceptance. And that is why I have a hard time accepting Grace, because I feel like we have to earn it. I can't earn God's grace because He has already given it to me.
Ask yourself why do you have a hard time accepting God's Grace? Is it because you are prideful? or because your have control issues, or you don't feel like your good enough? Do you struggle with working to please God? Are you competitive with other Christians, always comparing? Just like Elieen challenged us to answer this question and so I'm going to ask you to do the same. Ask God why you have a hard time accepting His Grace.
We had a fun weekend. Saturday we went Carambloa beach! There was a nice resort we had to go though to get to the beach. The weather was perfect, sunny and hot, great tanning weather! The water temperature was just right and the waves were awesome! Soft sand and hammocks to nap in! SO GOOD!
Sunday we branched out and attended a local island Baptist church. Non of the staff had ever been to this Church before, but the pastor knew we were coming. So we get there and follow a lady into the sanctuary where a guy appeared to be preaching and we were interrupting! Oh the best part is we walked in the front of the sanctuary where all eyes fell on us, even the man who was talking (i mean if i were a local i would be staring too, at the line of 11 white people walking in and interrupting their service.!) The man who was speaking welcomed us and said something about us being late and did a small recap of what they had gone over in their Sunday school. Thank goodness he was finishing up Sunday school! The service started off with some intense worship, loud singing, moving around and some clapping, it was awesome! The paster was a rather large man with a sweet islander accent. He defiantly kept our attention with his pacing around and extremely loud voice! It was a great experience!
Hope all is going well at home! I really miss the crisp fall weather, the beautiful leaves and barn parties! live it up at home for me please!
love and miss you guys at home!

Week 3
Matt Atkins talked about the father-heart of God. This week i i moved from believing God loves the world to God Loves Me, and that he is not disappointed in me!
Knowing the Father Loves you is the foundation to growing as a Christian. Matt talked about how God's love is unconditionally demonstrated, which is the way He acts towards us and not just how He feels. His love is also demonstrated affections , which is experiencing His love! Matt also talked about what hinders us from receiving God's love and its my fallen nature.
My fallen nature has a deep longing to be known and loved, so i have this fear of what people think of me. This fear also come from me feeling like i am just not good enough so i begin comparing myself with other people, comparing how they are better then me or what gifts they have that i wish i had, because if i had them i would be a much better Christian/person and God would love me more and i would then be good enough (I hope you can followed that). ahhhh but it's so not about that! God can't love me anymore then He does right now! His love isn't based on performance or earning it by being a better person, HE LOVE ME FOR ME! God for sure doesn't compare me to others! oh man how flippin amazing is His Love for me!
and yeah it was a very emotional week just dealing with breaking down some walls and letting God totally in. but also during this week God's love for me went from just being head knowledge to actually understanding and experiencing how much He loves me!

Week 2
Week 2 (October 13-19) was a crazy one...
Our speaker was Kristy Wilke and she spoke on hearing God's voice. She emphasized how everyone who is saved can hear from God, it might not be an audible voice but God does speak to us if we are willing to listen. Even if we are not willing or think we are not capable of hearing God, He will still have his way in our lives! God can speak in so many different ways and it may take practice learning those ways, especially if we in the past had an expectation on how we should hear God. Kristy challenged us to practice God's presence and by doing so we will draw so much closer to God and learn more of the Love He has for us.
On Wednesday October 15 we were told that a hurricane was to hit St. Croix that night starting at 8. so after our 10-12 class we started hurricane Omar prep! All of us students were in charge of cleaning up the "Great Room" which is the big room where we have class and hang out a lot of the time. Then we were to pack up an overnight bag because we would all be sleeping in the Great Room, which ended up being like 16ish people. The staff worked hard at boarding up windows and doors of all the buildings! That night was a fun night of just hanging out and playing games ( in the dark because the power went out around 8). The winds picked up a lot and we were able to watch the storm from out dinning room that has large open windows, which also aloud us to experience some of the strong winds.
On Thursday morning i was surprised to wake up to the sun shinning! We all went outside to survey the damage done. Lots of branches and tree limbs were down, and we had a few power lines down but none of the buildings were damaged What a Blessing! We spent the morning cleaning up, so i got some sun that day!
Saturday they staff decided to take us to the beach to just relax after a crazy week with hurricane Omar and all the work we put into the cleaning up. That trip ended up making us even more tired cause we hiked about 20 some minutes to the beach called: Sandy Point. Yep it was pretty sandy and the waves were pretty good for there not being any waves here in St. Croix!
Sunday started of good in the nice AC church! After church, since we still didn't have power, a few of us decided to go to the laundry mat... boy was that an experience! First we had to find and wait for a washer, actually we needed 3 washers (it cost 3-4 dollars for the washers!). Then we had to wait for tokens because they "ran out" (the owner didn't trust the employee with the key to get more tokens so we just had to wait and practice patience)... then we had to find dryers, which was quite the chore... wait some more and then finally folded our clothes and got out of there! That wonderful trip took about 3 hours! Oh and to make things even better about 10 mins after we got back to the base, the power came back on!!! yep what a Blessing! :)
Here is a verse that i was reflecting on this week:
1 John 3:1-3
See how very much our father Loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to his world don't recognize that we are God's children because they don't know him.
Everyone sleeping in the Great House!
The side of the base all boarded up and tree branches
everywhere!
The poor banana trees!

Week 1 in St. Croix!
The entrance of the base.
The wonderful cabins we sleep in!
I survived my first week on YWAM!
My flight and traveling went very smoothly on last Satruday. I got all settled into my little cabin (or cabanas as we now call them!) with my roommate Kathy. Later that night i meet the rest of the staff, it felt a little overwhelming because there were so many of them and so many names to remember!
This week has been a lot of going over guidelines, work duties, homework, and getting used to the schedule we will be having. My work duties include cleaning up and washing dishes after every meal on the weekdays. We did have fun this week too...one night the staff shared about themselves and how they got to St. Croix, we had a game night and this past saturday we got to have a tour of the island! We went to the most eastern part of the United States, the jungle and a few beautiful beaches! We were also given a welcome BBQ and party, which was an awesome night of fun and fellowship and getting to know the staff and other students better.
We already dug into God's word and had a lesson on Relinquishing Your Right, Responding in the Opposite Spirit, Intercession, and Character and Maturity. God is already at work in me and showing me how to relinquish "my rights" to him.
I'm excited for this week's speaker Kristy Wilke who will be speaking on Hearing God's Voice!
Thanks for all your prayers and support! You can remember our team as we are adjusting to our schedule and life in St. Croix and also remember the staff in prayer as they are preparing us for our mini outreach, which they are still praying about where God is leading our team to go.
Thanks!
Love & Miss you guys back home!
Morgan
